So were will you be? Where will you be on the first day of spring? And what will you have lost by the summer solstice? So what if we share enough of this picturesque view, could we stand alone? And what if we never can find a place for us to call home? Well. that'd be ok with me. The snow has started and it won't stop until you're miserable.

You are the handsome oxblood colt again, again, And I am the stone in your shoe and the hell in your heel, the fleck in your eye feigning surprise. Running a heartbroken preakness against the moon- Run for the front door, run through, run for that place you call home. The days are running by like pretty pinto horses, They carry us away, They carry us away. While we go sifting through the dirt, again, again. Starting from where the grass grows and moving to where the hands know and fading before the first snow. So we can say we tried- Rub the pollen from our skin on open wounds. It's what I've always wanted, It's what you've always wanted, It's what we've always wanted. The days are running by like pretty pinto horses. They carry us away, They carry us away. They are headed for golden days, They carry us away, We are headed for golden days.

The mark across the ceiling has been growing all this time Against time give it time. Peeling up and seeping, filling, the inside of this house left for dead. While the sunspots slip, Fall away from my eyes, I can't support the weight of water, of water. When the walls were always dark and thin and When I slept beneath the bed your voice cracked the foundation. Can you hear the trumpet rattling the basement? Pleading.

Sun and shade you felt dead inside so alive. On the first of May, Great divide coincide. Sun and shade, you felt dead inside so alive. Autumn light, Every night cast aside. And you're right where I left you writing libra on your eyelids, And you're right where I left you and I'm leaving now. And you're right where I left you holding little jars of anger, And you stayed when I left holding radio waves under tongue 'till you heard what you wanted. Sun and shade you felt dead inside so alive. On the first of May, Great divide coincide. Sun and shade you felt dead inside so alive. Autumn light, every night cast aside.

September caught me catching cols behind your back, Sleeping in basements with fever dreams of running sick with the dogs While you worried, Away in the garden, About an early frost. I'm calling in sick. I'm calling it in. September found me wearing headaches down to threads, Sleeping off knots we tied around little tongues and we should know Better than to move in the fall. We're calling in sick. We're calling it in.

Last night in my dream we were breathing. Last night in my dream we were dying over and over, Chasing our dog, Bleeding our hearts out in clover. Shouting goodbyes over and landlines and wires, Laughing and howling at our own funeral pyres but Only after midnight and Only on television and Only in the key of C. Now the dog is gone, dear brother. Chasing the footsteps of our mother over and over, Through the red fern, Burning fevers through her bones. Singing in cut- time until we stood on our own, And granting us the right to crown ourselves kings Like we always wanted like we never thought we could when Only deaf ears knew our names. Now the dog is gone, Father we've been wrong, Counting days when you're gone, Left us here alone, To bury your pale blue shell, In the earth where the dead dogs go.
